Guidelines

Manicure:

Remove all the enamel / nail polish from the finger nails with a cotton wool soaked in nail varnish remover.

You should then file the nails using an emery board, going from one side to the centre and then the other side to the centre so that a curve is formed. Do not file away the sides of the nail as these will help to support the nail and give it strength. You must always run your finger across the nail to check for snags or uneven nails.

Place your hands in sufficient warm water to cover the nails and the first joints of the fingers only. Dry the hand after removing it from the water and then continue - treat one hand at a time. Leave the nails damp but not dripping wet.

Push back the cuticle with an orange stick. Use a cuticle pusher for neglected nails or subborn areas - you can also use a cuticle remover solution to help lift the cuticles from the nail plate if necessary.

Smooth back the cuticle with the towel and remove any dead skin with a pair of cuticle clippers.

Apply a hand lotion to both hands. Nail varnish remover is then used to remove all the soap, oils, cream ets from the nails in preperation for the base coat. Apply nail strengthener if required and a base coat to both hands working from left to right to prevent smudging. In order to achieve an even coverage then you should use lighter strokes. Always se the right base coat for the correct condition of the nails and the nail varnish chosen.

Apply the nail varnish in the same way as above working from left to right. You may need to use three coates with a light nail varnish but only two coats with a dark nail varnish. Use a top coat on cream nail varnish only but this is not required for pearl varnish. Do not apply more than four coats including the base coat, nail varnish and top coat as the more coats applied, the longer it will take to dry.
