Not impressed | 05/09/2010Many other sites show really positive reviews for this product, so I feel a bit out of place writing a negative one but would like to ensure potential buyers have balanced feedback, so will proceed...
I've used home waxing kits before and absolutely loved my first one, but after a few years it got rather messy with all the wax spills and drips that I decided to buy this one (Rio Total Body Waxing kit) as my old product was no longer available.
I have used it in total 7 or 8 times but just cannot get on with it so have finally thrown it away. As other reviewers have said, heating the whole pot of soft wax takes forever (over an hour for it to fully melt), and the alternative of scooping it into the metal pans is not very practical as they provide nothing for you to scoop it with, so you can either use the lollipop-type sticks which are meant for aplying the wax and these usually just snap when used for scooping and you end up getting very messy! Or you have to use a kitchen spoon which have to spend ages cleaning and can never fully get the wax off afterwards! If you do successfully melt either the hard wax or soft wax directly in the pan, I agree it melts quickly and is much more useable than the whole pot, but there is no scraping bar, so you can only rid excess wax on the pan side, which then runs down the side of the equipment and across most of the floor (always have something under you to catch this!) and generally gets very messy. You also have the problem of cleaning the melting pans when you are done, because this isn't in the slightest easy to get rid of all that wax now melted in the pot and after much time trying, I decided to just keep the wax in the pan for next use but then you have to try and store the system with wax still in these pots and make sure they don't spill if you move the box etc...
My final dissapointment came with using the wax. I am no professional but am familiar with the intended technique (I have observed the pros many times whilst getting a wax done) and no matter how careful I tried with the soft wax, I would *always* end up with patches of skin looking burnt or bruised after using this kit. Not so with my previous old kit :-( The results with the hard wax were actually much better but it comes down to using the melting pans again and being left with either hot, sticky wax that needs cleaning or if you let it dry thinking that will be easy then wrong - its impossible to get out the pot and you are left needing to reheat old, hairy, used wax to try and get rid of it before you can even start your next session.
I would definitely not recommend this product - there are must be much, much better ones out there, that are cleaner, easier to use and give much better results.
